Department of Marathi

About Department:

Marathi is the Mother-Tongue of the majority population of the region. It is also Rajbhasha of the Maharashtra state and the Nagpur city is the Second Capital of Maharashtra. The cultural heritage including arts, history and ancient life of Maharashtra can be studied through the Marathi Literature.

The study of Marathi Literature begins with the opening of Nagpur University on academic level. It contributes spreading the life values of ancient culture and philosophy.

The subject Marathi is necessary to getting service in Administration of Maharashtra Government, In the point of view of modern world placement this language having scope in Print Media as well as Electronic media. There are thousands of periodicals running in Marathi all over the country and many TV/Radio channels. Most of publishers, translation services and legal advice services needs the persons in Marathi language.

The B. A. course is of Three years duration. Examinations are conducted annually by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.

Subject Organization Society:

There is Marathi Abhyas Mandal, which conducts Seminars, workshops and session of Talks of experts in the field. UGC and other NGOs are helping to organize such programs. ‘Kavi Suresh bhat yaanchi kavita’, ‘Aadivasi Marathi Sahitya’ and ‘Marathi Loksahitya’ are some titles performed by the Marathi Abhyas Mandal in last few years. The two days seminar entiteld ‘Aadivasi Marathi Sahitya’ was organized on state level with the financial assistance of UGC.

The proceedings of the Two days State level Seminar (Sponsored by UGC) held in Feb. 2006 on Tribal literature in Marathi is published as Book. Editor : Dr. Pramod Munghate, Publisher : Pratima Prakashan, Pune

Visit of Dr. Vitthal Wagh, the noted poet in Marathi to the Deptt. as a Guest Poet.

Completed the MAJOR RESEARCH PROJECT, S P O N S E R E D B Y : U G C: 2005-2007, Principal Investigator : Dr. Pramod Munghate, on The Study of Mass Movement of Drama in East Vidarbha.

State Level Seminar, on 11 the March 2008 Topic- Literature of Dr. Rajan Gawas and Sadanand Deshmukh –Sponsored by UGC.

Departmental Library –

  2. Departmental library is having 75 books.
  3. Dictionaries of Braj, Urdu and Eng. language are available.
  4. One computer with Internet facility is placed in the library for students and staff.
