Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1957 offering course in B.Sc. (Mathematics). The eminent Professors, Dr. P. K. Sundararajan and Mr. V. V. Herlekar were the pillars of the department in the past. Presently the department has well qualified and dedicated staff to carry on the glorious tradition.

Mathematics, the Queen of Sciences, is used throughout the world as a language and a tool in understanding the physical world around. Applied Mathematics is concerned with application of Mathematical knowledge to other fields, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, finance and social sciences.

Milestones:

1. Golden jubilee celebrated by organizing Inter-collegiate Seminar competition “Golden Talks” on 7^th January 2007.

2. Post Graduate degree course, MSc (Mathematics) commenced in July 2019.

Achievements:

1. State level conference on ‘General relativity and prospects of singularity’, sponsored by UGC (WRO), Pune was organized in 2003.
2. ‘MATSIM-2014’, a state level workshop on ‘Matlab and Simulink’, sponsored by UGC was organized during Sept 5 – 7, 2014, assisted and delivered by faculty of VIT, Chennai.
3. Ms. Priyanka Bertram ranked FIRST in Merit in Mathematics in RTM Nagpur University B.Sc. (Maths) examination 2009-12.
